PSA: Go See Interstellar In Theatres

Jamal Haneef • 2025-2-16

Ten years back, when Interstellar had originally come out, I was some 11-12 years old, and had only ever seen a couple of films in the cinema. Much like many others my age, I had no idea who Christopher Nolan was (or any of the other incredible names associated with this film, for that matter), and I don't remember even knowing that this movie had come out.  It was only after maybe a month that I started hearing about how amazing it was, about how all the dimensions and black hole stuff was as perfect as it could get. By this point, I had already immersed myself into whatever little space content I could find (and digest) - mainly the George series by Stephen Hawking, and a variety of animated videos by Kurzgesagt and Crash Course, and the film immediately piqued my interest then. I remember watching it for the first time with a few cousins, at an uncle's house. Absolutely mesmerized. I remember watching it for the second time, probably a year later, myself, and connecting the dots. I remember since then, as I grew and learnt, connecting more and more dots, but I never really went back and watched the entire movie. Today, watching it, taking in every bit of Nolan's cinematic perfection, every sound byte of Hans Zimmer's legendary score, the fantastically immersive ensemble cast, I was taken back to being a 12-year-old Haneef (whose dreams of pursuing astrophysics have since faded away), mesmerized, feeling like I was experiencing it all for the first time. Two words - absolute perfection. If there's one thing you take away from this, make sure it's that you go watch Interstellar in a theatre. I say this without exaggeration - I doubt there will ever be a greater cinematic experience in our lifetimes.
